Lifestyle Choices for Remote Work Wellness

When you work at home, you may think that it’s easier to care for yourself. The truth is that it’s stressful, and you can quickly let yourself take a backseat to work and family as you try to balance the two. But, remote work wellness doesn’t have to be a challenge. Today’s wfhBuzz tips can put you on the right track.

Prioritize your home office.
When you work from home, you have to have a dedicated space to do so. Make sure that your working area is clean and cozy. You’ll also want to add touches, such as an ergonomic office chair and desk and ample lighting, so that you will be comfortable and productive. These will also help you avoid back strain and headaches, respectively.

Take breaks.
It might sound counterproductive, but taking breaks during your workday is the best way to get work done on time. When you can have a mental respite, you’ll return to your workspace with a fresh set of eyes and an even fresher brain. Make sure to also take between half an hour and one hour for lunch, which should give you enough time to make healthy food choices.

Exercise every day.
Sitting at a desk all day makes it difficult to stay in shape. You have to devote extra time and attention to your fitness routine. Wake up a few minutes early each morning so that you can get in a quick jog or swim and still have time to eat a healthy breakfast and get ready for your workday.

Practice healthy sleep hygiene.
Another crucial step toward generating remote work wellness is to get enough sleep. Many people new to working from home find it actually takes more time out of their day to do things like grocery shop or run other errands they cannot do on the way from home. This can make you feel obligated to stay up at night to handle chores and other responsibilities. But, according to the Mayo Clinic, you need no less than seven hours of sleep every night.

Ultimately, working from home should enhance your lifestyle, not harm it. Make healthy lifestyle choices now, and you may find that your remote work schedule gives you an opportunity to be healthy and happy during your on and off hours.
